Found in Fujian, Guangdong, Hainan and Yunnan provinces of China, Japan, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Moluccas and the Philippines in primary, semideciduous, broad-leafed, mixed and coniferous forests at elevations of 1300 to 1450 meters as a small to medium sized, cool growing terrestrial orchid with a stout stem carrying several, plicate, elliptic, acute, gradually narrowing below into the clasping base leaf that blooms in the fall on an axillary, erect, slender, to 14" [35 cm] long, racemose, several to many flowered inflorescence.
