Found in the western Himalayas, Chinese Himalayas, eastern Himalayas, Assam, Nepal, Thailand, and Taiwan in dense broad-leaved forests at elevations of 800 to 2300 meters as a giant sized, warm to cold growing, mycoheterotrophic terrestrial with a woody, terete stem enveloped by lanceolate-triangular sheaths that blooms in the later spring and early summer on a paniculate, branched, pendent, laxly few flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acute, concave floral bracts and carrying vanilla scented, spongy flowers
