Common Name Weberbauer's Masdevallia [German Botanist and Discoverer of Species]

Found in Ecuador and Peru in montane rainforests at elevations of 800 to 1100 meters as a miniature sized, caespitose, warm to cool growing epiphyte with a short, erect, stout ramicaul concealed by 2 to 3 scarious, tubular sheaths with an erect, single, apical, oblanceolate, attenuate, obtuse, coriaceous, carinate leaf that blooms most often in the winter and spring on an erect, to 7" [to 18 cm] long, triangular in cross-section, inflorescence arising from the base of the ramicaul with a basal bract and tubular, imbricating floral bracts holding the flower well above or at the leaf height with several flowers opening in succession.

Blooms more than once a year from the spikes. This species can be distinguished by the tridentate petals, the low callus keel with a round, basal swelling and the mucronate, denticulate mid-lobe of the labellum.
