Habitat and Distribution
Attalea allenii is endemic to Panamá, and North western Colombia. Lowland rain forest on non-flooded soils, below 500 m. elevation.Description
A small Attalea with a subterranean (an underground) trunk, and ascending, plumose leaves. Young plants are particularly attractive with a large upper portion of the leaf undivided. The very large, edible seeds, are held on a short inflorescence close to the ground. Fruits 1-3 seeded, obovoid, 6-8 cm long and 3.5-5 cm diameter, light brown; endocarp fibers scattered.
