Thanks for taking us along on your road trip. The group of palms in the first post are just spectacular. It's amazing that you can get a view like that right off the highway.

Did I understand you correctly that you did all that in a day trip from Manaus? I gotta come down and drive that highway some time.

And about those Euterpe palms in Post #23: We saw some similar trees on our trip with Andrew Henderson on the Rio Negro back in April. I've attached a couple of pictures of them below. They were too delicate to be E. precatoria but still weren't a perfect match for E. catinga. Andrew ultimately decided to simply say that they resembled E. catinga, or some similar species, or were possibly a hybrid.

Thanks Mike. Yes it was a long day. But, I have driven the road a lot and know all the curves. But, you can not remember all the holes. So, I sort of messed up a few rims on my car. On the return we stopped in Presidente Figueredo which is 100 kms from Manaus and took a dip in the river that runs through town. They made a real nice park around the rapids and the water was cool and refreshing. It is a small river and very clean water. I am not really sure if those palms are E. catinga or not. In fact there are some growing along side the Mauritias right next to the airport in Manaus. I thought they are E. olearcea that had escaped from cultivation. But, they are the same as up in the reservation in my photos and in yours.

I got some seeds from a friend of mine... with no species name. He just told me they were single euterpe with orange crownshaft. 2 of them germinated... I wonder whether they were them?? I can find out where the seeds are from....

Ari,

How are the E. precatorias and the Mauritias that I sent you doing.

Daryl,

Yes Amazonia is a beautiful place. If you ever come to visit I will show you around a bit.

Doing very well, Don. A few Mauritias are going in today and maybe a few euterpe. I need to repot the euterpe to 200mm pots...

Regards, Ari :)
