In Thailand, I was drawn to photograph the palms I have, because I wanted to see what they might look like all grown up. However, of course I wanted to document the ones I've never seen before. So that's part of how I ended up taking 2,200 photos... Hover on each photo to see the name. The last two photos show the only two of these that I have planted and photographed so far. Mine sure do have a long way to go! Anybody growing these? Any Thailand Arecas to add?

I saw the Areca mandacanii there as well. What a very nice surprise because I used to have a few before a freeze killed them all. It's a pretty rare species. The A, upiana I never heard of and is beautiful! Thanks Cindy, I appreciate all of your good photos.

That's because it was...............another hybrid! I saw them too and my jaw was all over the ground. I'm like," what in the heck am I'm looking at"? Well, then Kampon walked by and I asked him, he said it was crossed with Areca catechu. Dang!!!

Thanks Jeff, now I can quit giving mine the 'stink eye' every time I look at them. Now that I look at that photo again I can see the catechu in them. Or at least I think I can.

They were beauties though.

Hey Brod, here are a couple of shots for you. A.macrocalyx from my garden, not from Thailand. They are

growing nicely and are pretty carefree.

Looks like the seed might be viable after a couple of tries. Still a ways to go though.

The camera can hardly capture the blinding red color.

A pair of the largest ones, have planted 3 more smaller ones.

Even the spathe is beautiful.

Wow Tim!! Yours look even better than the ones I saw in Thailand! Simply gorgeous! Glad you could provide more photos for Brod too. I can see why you've planted five of these and hope all of your seeds are viable so you can have a macrocalyx forest.

Except for maybe A. triandra, I think these are the rest of the Arecas I have (so far). I STILL haven't finished sorting my Thailand photos so will add any others from this genus that I find. As always, if you're willing to share yours, I always enjoy seeing them.
