There was a palm going around as Ptychosperma sp 'Black Seed'.  Don't know if it ever got a formal name.

Someone is selling a palm called Ptychosperma schefferi that has black seeds.

I'll attempt to help narrow it down by listing what it could be and what is could not be as far as I could search, but the Hmmm category might need some assistance from the growers at least a zone higher to help fill in the details.

Black/Purple fruit: Ptychosperma ambiguum, Ptychosperma buabe, Ptychosperma burretianum (if new fronds come out red), Ptychosperma cuneatum, Ptychosperma lineare, Ptychosperma schefferi, Ptychosperma vestitum (supplemental link), Ptychosperma waitianum (if new fronds come out red)

Hmmm?: Ptychosperma hartmanii, Ptychosperma macrocerum, Ptychosperma mambare, Ptychosperma mooreanum, Ptychosperma praemorsum, Ptychosperma streimannii, Ptychosperma    tagulense

Red/Orange fruit: Ptychosperma bleeseri, Ptychosperma caryotoides, , Ptychosperma elegans, Ptychosperma furcatum, Ptychosperma gracile, Ptychosperma lauterbachii, Ptychosperma macarthurii, Ptychosperma microcarpum, Ptychosperma nicolai (Wikipedia supplemental link), Ptychosperma propinquum (supplemental link), Ptychosperma pullenii, Ptychosperma ramosissimum (supplemental link), Ptychosperma rosselense, Ptychosperma salomonense, Ptychosperma sanderianum,

Confusing...followed link to Ptychosperma cuneatum.  Description says black fruit, picture shows red fruit.  I have one id'd here from pictures as Ptychosperma cuneatum and it has red fruit.

I thought the same thing, but the Description at the link says the fruit are black and that was corroborated by the reading at this link (also see photo of specific section):

Guess I'll have to take photos again and perhaps we can correctly id mine.  Don't know if mine is a "clumper" or just a bunch of seedlings that were put in the same pot for sale.  Can't remember where I bought it....Just looked back at pictures from FB 2008 and it looks to be a single palm.  Don't know where it is in the yard if it survived but the one in the ground definitely has more than one trunk.  Here is 2008 photo.

Wow, thanks for chiming in!

I'm pretty certain it's not a cuneatum; the leaves are different and it's a short, teensy thing. I have a cuneatum in my garden, and it's also a single. This plant appears to be a multi.

I'm gonna germinate the seeds, maybe by the time they sprout we'll know what they are. But if we don't they'll be loved just the same . . . .

It's so nice to be nutty in the morning . . . .

Cuneatum I'm pretty sure is a single, and a tall one at that. Mine's about 8-9 feet and still no seeds. The one in my picture is a teensy little thing. Perfect for teensy yards, with teensy houses and giant price tags like here in the Land O'La La.

I have some, Kevin had a bunch a while back. The leaves are entirely different from the one in my pictures.

Thanks for the input!

Hmm. @WaianaeCrider, @joe_OC, @kylecawazafla, @kinzyjr, @Jerry@TreeZoo, I'm starting to wonder if seeds that ripen to red can turn black over time. The guy I got the seeds from mentioned they'd been on the plant for a long while, like months.
