HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Smith goes yard twice to lift Whitman-Hanson baseball to win
Senior tri-captain Ethan Smith hit two over-the-fence home runs -- one to right-center, one to left-center -- and drove in four runs Thursday to power the Whitman-Hanson High baseball team to an 11-1 win over Patriot League rival North Quincy.
W-H (1-2, 1-1) finished with 13 hits with Ryan Carroll, Harrison Gabriele, Josh Googins and Cameron Beltramini joining Smith with two hits each. Evan Yakavonis and Matt Phelps also had hits.

Senior right-hander Aidan Barry (2 innings, 1 earned run) and freshman lefty Ryan Baker (4 scoreless innings) combined for the win.

Plymouth South 5, Silver Lake 2: Freshman Jayson Ruehs had a pinch-hit, 2-run single to key a comeback win for South (3-0, 3-0 Patriot League). Tommy Sullivan earned the win, striking out 11 over 6 innings, and Naythan Ruehs earned the save with a three-strikeout seventh inning. Alex Carroll (2 for 4, RBI) and A.J. DelPozzo (1 for 1, RBI) also starred.
Hanover 10, Duxbury 0: Sophomore Gabe Knudsen pitched a 1-hitter with 5 strikeouts to lead the Hawks (1-1) to a Patriot League road win. Wes Bryan (2 hits, RBI), Carter Zielinski (2 hits, RBI), Johnny McDonald (hit, 3 RBI) and Robbie Hanna (hit, 2 RBI) also starred.

Brockton 17, Cardinal Spellman 7: Dominick Hopkins earned the win on the mound for the Boxers (3-1). Brady Ensko, Armani LoRusso, Nick Genotassio and Sami Balti powered the offense.
Quincy 7, Marshfield 5: Drew Boretti drove in 3 runs, and Dylan Green, Coleman Ross and Emmett Bandzak each had 2 hits. Zachary Donaghue got the complete-game win, allowing 10 hits and 4 earned runs.
South Shore Tech 12, Norfolk Aggie 2 (6 inn.): Tommy Jenkins pitched an abbreviated complete game with 9 strikeouts and delivered 3 hits at the plate as the Vikings (4-1) won on the road. Jake Googins, Garret Morris and Jack Lewis paced a 16-hit attack.
Bishop Stang 5, Archbishop Williams 3: Matt Kowalski belted a 2-run home run in the loss.
Foxboro 10, Norwell 3: The Clippers (1-2) lost a non-league game at home.
SOFTBALL
Cardinal Spellman 17, Matignon/St. Joe's 8: Winning pitcher Ava Loud allowed 2 earned runs and struck out 9 while delivering 3 hits and 2 RBI for the Cardinals (3-2). Yamili Fernandez had a pair of hits, including a home run, and drove in 4 runs. Roslyn Quinn (3 hits, 4 RBI), Emma Barnes (3 hits, including a home run, 3 RBI) and Tracy LaCara (4 hits, 2 RBI) also starred.
Blue Hills 13, Mt. Alvernia 5: The Warriors notched their first win of the season as freshman Rylee McKnight picked up her first varsity win in the circle in a complete-game effort. She also went 3 for 5 with her first home run of the season and 3 RBI. Jayden Craft also had 3 hits and 2 doubles. Sylvia Cull played well at shortstop and belted a home run.

Hanover 9, Duxbury 0: Sophomore Abby Smith pitched a 1-hitter with 7 strikeouts and had a double at the plate for the Hawks (3-1, 3-0) in the Patriot League road win. Freshman catcher Abby Hanna had 3 hits, including a double. Kaelyn Chase (triple), Erin Condon (2 runs), Mary Kate Flynn and McKenzie Foley each had 2 hits.
Stoughton 9, Brockton 2: Kerry Driscoll allowed only 4 hits and struck out 3 in the complete-game effort for the Black Knights (5-2), who have won three straight. Driscoll also was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Alyssa Edwards (4 for 4, 2 doubles, RBI), Julie Powers (3 hits, including a double), Sydney Menz (2 hits) and Kate Bulger (single, 3 RBI) also contributed.
Holbrook 12, West Bridgewater 0: Junior Alyssa Slamin went 3 for 4 with 3 runs and 3 RBI for the Bulldogs (6-0). Sophomore Taylor Dolan (3 runs scored) tossed a shutout to catcher Candance Sumner, who drove in 3 runs.
Walpole 3, Oliver Ames 2: Katie Melendy didn't allow an earned run in the 8-inning loss and surrendered just 4 hits. Emily Martin and Lexi Galsband each had 2 hits and 1 RBI for OA.
Marshfield 7, Quincy 6: The Rams scored 5 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, including 4 with 2 outs. Jess Morrison (4 for 5) had a two-out, two-run triple in the seventh to win it. Senior Hannah Blanco and sophomore Maddie Powers had 2 hits each.
Silver Lake 15, Plymouth South 1: Delany Moquin went 4 for 4 while Jayme Carr, Maddie Bryan, Caroline Peterson and Hannah Kelleher each had 2 hits for the Lakers (3-1). Peterson also earned the win in the circle with 9 strikeouts.
Plymouth North 4, Pembroke 3: Kylee Carafoli was 3 of 3 with 2 RBI, and Caroline Collins struck out 5 in a complete-game win for North.
Norfolk Aggie 11, South Shore Tech 6: Lexi Mitsiopoulos and Alli Traynor were each 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI for the Vikings in the loss. Mitsiopoulos also tripled. Tiana MacDonald (2 RBI) and Avery Cina (RBI) also chipped in.
Wareham 7, Carver 0: The Crusaders (3-3) got no-hit by Jenna Klemp. Ali Thomas and Paige Medico were defensive standouts for Carver in the loss.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Quincy 17, North Quincy 4: Maddie Bailey led the Presidents with 8 goals. Delia Nichol added a hat trick while Kathleen Higgins and Grace Connor each had 2 goals. Chloe Lynch and Mairead Folan each had solo tallies.
Weymouth 18, Brookline 14: Megan Doyle finished with 10 points, 9 draw controls, and 4 caused turnovers as the Wildcats (4-0) won at home. Cameron Flaherty (6 goals, 4 caused turnovers) and Mira Flaherty (2 goals, 3 assists) also starred. Sammy Holmes added a goal, and Kira Keenan scored her first varsity goal.

Hingham 16, Cohasset 8: Abby Kennedy and Grace Maroney starred on faceoffs and goaltender Lily Samoska had a strong game for the Harborwomen (4-1).
Marshfield 5, Silver Lake 2: For the Lakers, Maggie Keller made 9 saves, and Cloe Geraigery scored twice.
Hull 12, Tri-County 6: Grace Grosso, Nina Tiani and Maeve White all had hat tricks for the Pirates (3-2).
Whitman-Hanson 14, Plymouth South 8: Maddie Allen (4 goals), Jackie Keenan (hat trick) and Ella Nagel (2 goals, 3 assists) led the Panthers (1-3) to their first win.
Plymouth North 14, Barnstable 7: The Blue Eagles won a non-league game.
Falmouth 19, Bridgewater-Raynham 5: The Trojans lost a non-league game.
BOYS LACROSSE
BC High 11, St. John's (Shrewsbury) 5: Patrick Marone scored 5 goals, and James Krzydwa, Ronan Bailey, Tim Rogers, Marshall Rice, Max Galvin and Aiden MacDonnell each added one for the Eagles (4-1).
King Philip 17, Oliver Ames 2: The Tigers, who were shorthanded, received goals from Wyatt Fritchman and Wes Tower.
Scituate 17, Barnstable 1: James Sullivan had 5 goals and an assist for the Sailors (3-1). Will Robinson (3 goals, 2 assists) and Tim Locchiato (2 goals, 3 assists) also starred.
Hanover 7, Sandwich 6 (OT): Sandwich fought back to tie the score at 6-6 in the final minute of play, but the Hawks defense made three big stops in the final minutes of regulation and in OT to secure the win.
Norwell 13, Dover-Sherborn: Griffin Vetrano scored 4 goals as the Clippers (5-0) won a rematch of last year's Div. 3 state final.
Cohasset 17, Mashpee 3: Jay Fox (7 goals, 2 assists) led the Skippers (3-1).
GIRLS TENNIS
Hingham 3, Scituate 2: Mathilde Megard won at first singles, and Hingham (3-0) swept the doubles with three-set wins from the teams of Maggie O'Keeffe/Susie Anderson (6-4, 3-6, 7-6 at No. 1) and Sanya Khadivi/Renee Martel (7-6, 3-6, 7-5 at No. 2). Scituate got singles wins from Lexi Washburn (No. 2) and Sammy Roman (No. 3).
Duxbury 5, Hanover 0: Caroline Sutliffe, Cara Cass and Luna Porciatti won in singles, and the Dragons swept the doubles with the teams of Tiffany Strachan/Welles Holbrook and Agnes Buell/Taylor Florek.
Plymouth North 4, Pembroke 1: Ava Boyajian (No. 2) and Kelsey Davis (No. 3) won in singles, and North swept the doubles with the teams of Gwyn Amonte/Nyla Lavoie (No. 1) and Sammi Cheung/Kaitlyn Ng (No. 2).
Boston Latin Academy 3, Brockton 2: The Boxers got their points by sweeping the doubles matches with the teams of Jessica Le/Samantha Blanchard (No. 1) and Christelle Jean-Baptiste/Ahunna Okreke (No. 2).

Milton 5, Dedham 0: The Wildcats (3-2) won at home.
Hingham 3, Scituate 2: The Harbormen (3-0) won on the road.

Hingham 78, Duxbury 59: Duxbury highlights from Wednesday's meet: the 4x100m relay (Mitch Tackitt, Lucas Fadden, Gavin Thomas, Dennis Lee) won in a school-record :43.58; Fadden won the 100m (:11.15); Lee won the 200m (:22.42): Jake Boudreau won the 800m (2:03.65); Brad Harrington won the mile (4:43.92); JJ Lucier won discus (91-1); and Cam Starrick won javelin (130-0).
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Hingham 104, Duxbury 18: On Wednesday, Kelsey Tarby won the 200m (:27.74) and 400m (1:00.58), and Emma Mills won the 100m hurdles (:15.40) and ran on the winning 4x100m relay (:50.85) for Hingham. Other winners for the Harborwomen: Ashley Jewell (800m, 2:45.83); Sarah Burke (mile, 5:54.95); Maureen Koenen (400m hurdles, 1:08.94); Sarah Bryden (shot put, 24-7.25); Elizabeth Blackwood (javelin, 80-5); Nina Crean (high jump, 4-10); Francesca Candelieri (long jump, 15-8); Elizabeth Schembri (triple jump, 31-9.5); and the 4x400m relay (4:39.31). For Duxbury, Josie Lee won the 100m (:12.84), and Abby Fenton won the discus (82-5).
