Tasmanian Native Orchids
Camera: Ricoh GR II Photo Location: Tasmania

A collection of native orchids, shot over the last season in Tasmania.

Most of these were found on the Tasman Peninsular, with a few from the Peter Murrell Reserve.


Acianthus caudatus (Mayfly Orchid)


Caleana major (Flying Duck Orchid)


Pterostylis melagramma (Black-stripe Greenhood)


Caladenia vulgaris (Summer Fingers)


Thelymitra pauciflora (Sun Orchid)


Pterostylis nutans (Nodding Greenhood)


Prasophyllum apoxychilum (Tapered Leek Orchid) - endangered


Burnettia cuneata (Lizard Orchid)


Pterostylis plumosa (Bearded Greenhood)


Diuris sulphurea (Tiger Orchid)


Prasophyllum concinnum (Trim Leek Orchid)


Thelymitra ixioides (Spotted Sun Orchid)

Excellent series of images of these delicate little flowers. Your photographs do them justice mate.

There's an awful lot of work, time and patience gone into getting those beautiful shots, the GR II with its 28mm lens seems to be much more capable than one would have initially thought.

Some really nice macros here, also a very interesting post with unusual orchids I haven't seen before. Seems like the tiny variety are dominant in Tasmania?

For the most part yes, there's not many varieties with flowers that are more than 20mm across.

Ive come across a few here in NSW but not photographed them yet.

Well done, sir. The GR really shines as a mini macro, and the background is nice and even.
It's funny, I don't recognise the flowers, but the light is very similar to NZ: Grey/green.
