Plant one male for 1 to 7 females. Branches covered with reddish down. White perfumed flowers with a yellowish tinge at the end of flowering, a little smaller than those of the female plants. Prefers a rich and fresh, non chalky, drained soil. The first to mention this plant was Robert Fortune (GB) in 1847. The plant was introduced in 1900 by Ernest H. Wilson from Hupeh, China.
