Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss

Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss are perhaps two of the most-visited waterfalls in Iceland. Located only about thirty minutes apart on Iceland’s south coast, both are easily accessed from Route 1. Being so popular, you can count on plenty of company when visiting.

We happened to have poor weather during much of our visit, and I ended up visiting Skógafoss twice in the rain. The first time was mid-afternoon, and it was packed with people. I went back later, around 11:00 p.m. to get some photos with fewer tourists in them. Still raining, I found getting some good shots to be quite a challenge, as I’m not used to taking photos in the rain. In addition to the rain, the waterfalls put a ton of mist into the air, which can also impact photos.

It was also raining when we arrived at Seljalandsfoss. I attempted to take some photos, but the lens of my camera kept getting wet. Only a couple turned out:

We were staying relatively close to Seljalandsfoss, so when I woke up the next morning to some blue skies, I quickly drove over before the rain started up again.
