Lance LeGault dies in California

One of Chillicothe's famous sons died Sept. 10 in Los Angeles, California.

Lance LeGault, 75, is known for many different TV appearances and voice-over work.

A memorial service is planned for Sept. 22, where he will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park at Hollywood Hills, according to his talent agency, TGMD.

The 1955 Chillicothe Township High School graduate got his start when John Wayne gave him his first film role in the 1959 movie, "Horse Soldiers."

He then worked as a stunt double for Elvis Presley in "Girls! Girls! Girls!," "Kissin' Cousins," "Viva Las Vegas" and "Roustabout."

Also in connection with Presley, LeGault narrates the pre-recorded tours at Presley's home, Graceland, in Memphis, Tenn. His low, gravelly voice can be heard as visitors walk about the mansion.

He also may be better known for his role as Col. Roderick Decker on "The A-Team" and Col. Buck Greene on "Magnum, PI."

He also used his deep voice for commercials, as well as being the voice for Junior the Buffalo on Disney's "Home on the Range."

Glen Larson, creator of Knight Rider, once described his voice as "four octaves lower than God's," according to information from his talent agency.

His final appearance will be in 2013 in a Paul Rudd comedy, titled "Prince Avalanche."

Back in Chillicothe, he was one of the honorees in the charter class of the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2007.

Known as "Frenchie" to his Chillicothe classmates, he was quite the athlete with a full scholarship to Wichita State University for football.

He and his wife, Teresa, have four children and live in the Los Padres National Forrest, about 60 miles north of Los Angeles, according to his induction information.
