Luke McMillin Grabs The Top Spot For SCORE Baja 400 Qualifying

After a day of qualifying for starting positions for the 2022 SCORE Baja 400, the starting order is now set. A five mile course was laid out similar to last years Baja 400 loop with some minor changes that had a good mix of high speed, tight turns, jumps and technical sections.

First up was the Trophy Truck Spec class where 24 trucks took the green flag to see who would start first in class. Pierce Herbst laid down the fastest lap for the class with the only time under 7 minutes with a 6 Minute, 54 Second run and will start in front of Christopher Polvoorde who was just six seconds behind Herbst.

Third place went to Brock Heger who missed Polvoorde by under a second and Dustin Grawboski and Dan Fresh rounding out the top five. Connor McMullen who is usually in the top of the qualifying field had an unfortunate rollover and will have to start in the back along with two other fast drivers Caydence MacCachren and Jason McNeil who both suffered flats on their runs.

Class 1 just had one person, Brendan Gaughn show up to qualify so…congrats!

The Trophy Truck class is always the most exciting to watch and with a group of heavy hitters all trying to get the top qualifier plenty of action would ensue.

Surprisingly Luke McMillin has never qualified first in Baja but today was his day. Averaging 44.42 mph McMillin was able to beat Bryce Menzies by a mere 6 seconds to take the honor of starting first on Saturday. Jax Redline who was four seconds behind Bryce will start in third and Dan McMillin and Tavo Vildosola are your top 5.

With how tight and technical the qualifying loop was, it was no surprise that in the top ten only two trucks were two wheel drive (Toby Price a madman and Rob Mac the GOAT).

Andy McMillin who has been putting a ton of test time in lately also suffered an early flat tire and he will have to start in the back.

The Baja 400 has already been an interesting event with all the rain that Baja has received lately and it will be an exciting race to watch come Saturday! Be sure to check out SCORE’s live streaming of tech on Friday and the race on Saturday in the race thread here on RDC.

Wait… did Dan get 4th?!

Also, impressive driving by the 6100s! Poolvorde and Herbst would have been Top 10 in TT with only ~525hp.

Pretty bummed that only 1 buggy showed up to qualifying.

Still impressive. Watching Bryce's qualifying video from the helicopter (or maybe drone) really showed what these trucks can do. It looks like it has the TT's have taken it to a whole new level. Excited as a fan to see this happen.

Its insane what grip the AWD have. I qualified with Dan Fresh in spec to make notes before Jax and I went, The course was tore up a lot from TTs. If the spec TT wen after TT the times would not be close at all. Got super loose and blown out. I also rode with Wade Porter in Legends and but then course was shot. Luke and Duncan are the ones to beat for sure. They were top dogs for sure.
