Description
This species is very restricted in its wild range, in coastal Croatia but grows strongly and well in cultivation in the UK making deep seated, strongly perennial clumps which flower well, outside.
Strong and robust growths with plain (unspotted) deep green leaves and pure, solid, unbroken, satin-like, jet black spathes around a slightly paler, yet still-dark spadix in May. The sheer intensity of the black has to be seen, whilst the pungent dung scent is also an experience you should attempt to share with friends.
Well drained sunny sites are recommended but it thrives in most situations, including heavy clay.
