... We consider this section here with a narrow concept, only including species with tricholomatoid basidiocarps, blue colours, pileipellis a hymeniderm to trichoderm, iso-to subisodiametrical basidiospores, rather long and narrow basidia, intracellular pigment, and abundant clamp connections. Several species that fit into this concept have been described in recent years, often with a tropical to subtropical distribution (Manimohan et al. 2006;Gates and Noordeloos 2007;Karstedt and Capelari 2010;Aime et al. 2010;Eyssartier et al. 2012;Largent et al. 2014). It is, however, at the moment not possible to give a phylogenetic overview of this group because DNA sequence data of authentical specimens of E. callidermum (Romagn. ...

Entoloma (Agaricales, Basidiomycota) is a species-rich genus with approximately 2000 species known worldwide. In Cen- tral America, however, information about the species of this genus is sparse, despite the generally high biodiversity in this region. Recently, 124 specimens of Entoloma were collected in Panama, Chiriquí Province. In the present publication, the morphology of 20 species represented by more than one specimen is described and depicted with photographs, line drawings, and scanning electron micrographs. Molecular phylograms based on ITS or concatenated ITS and partial nc LSU rDNA sequences are provided. The taxonomic status of these species is evaluated and 17 species of Entoloma are described as new to science. Only one species could be assigned to an already known species, viz. Entoloma belouvense. Nolanea albertinae, described from Brazil, appeared similar and is combined in E. belouvense on varietal level. The identifications of two fur- ther species are uncertain. At least 30 other species, including potentially new species, cannot formally be described due to insufficient material. A preliminary key to the species of the genus Entoloma in Panama is provided. The spatial shape of the polyhedroid basidiospores of Entoloma spp. is discussed based on literature and the micrographs generated for the present study. Our re-evaluations indicate that the type of polyhedroid basidiospore and the structure of its base are not reliable as diagnostic characters for the delimitation of subgenera in Entoloma.
... The neotropical E. brasiliense (= Calliderma fibulatum; Karstedt & Capelari 2010) is microscopically similar to E. djaense in its subglobose basidiospores, abundant clamp connections, and pileipellis structure, but differs in its smaller basidiomata with a dark blue pileus and bluish-grey stipe (Karstedt & Capelari 2010). ...

Six species of Entoloma ( Entolomataceae , Agaricales , Basidiomycota ) are described from recent Cameroonian collections: E. bisterigmatum , E. brunneoloaurantiacum , E. djaense , E. intricatum , E. versiforme , and E. parvistellatum . These species occur in tropical rainforests dominated by ectomycorrhizal trees in the genera Gilbertiodendron and Uapaca . Data on macromorphology, micromorphology, DNA sequences, habitat and comparisons with similar taxa are provided for each. This is the first contemporary taxonomic work on the Entolomataceae from Cameroon.
... The huge genus Entoloma sensu lato (Basidiomycetes, Tricholomatinae) contains at least 2000 species worldwide (Romagnesi 1941;Romagnesi & Gilles 1979;Horak 1980Horak , 1982Horak , 2008Noordeloos 1992Noordeloos , 2004Largent 1994; Baroni & Halling 2000;Baroni & Ortiz 2002;Henkel et al. 2011;Karstedt et al. 2007; Karstedt & Capelari 2010He et al. 2013;Noordeloos & Gates 2012;Morozova et al. 2014). Traditionally it is considered one genus with around 15 subgenera, or split into smaller genera, that generally follow the subgenera in the first approach. ...

Entoloma aurorae-borealis is described as new to science and three rare or little known Entoloma species (E. borgenii, E. eminens, and E. serpens) from Norway are treated based on morphological and molecular evidences. In the ITS phylogeny presented here, all species belong to the Sinuatum clade, one of five well-supported lineages of subgenus Entoloma (= Rhodopolia & Nolanidea). Entoloma aurorae-borealis is only known from northern Norway, whereas E. eminens and E. serpens, apart from the here reported new records in Norway are known only from a few localities in Finland, and E. serpens also in NW Russia. Ento-loma borgenii is a widespread , though rarely recorded species from alpine sites in north Norway as well as the arctic (Greenland, Svalbard) and a few places in northern and eastern Finland. The two arctic-alpine species (E. aurorae-borealis and E. borgenii) are associated with Salix herbacea, E. serpens grows with Salix spp. and probably also with Betula and Populus in boreal-boreonemoral (-alpine) areas, and E. eminens in Norway is associated with Tilia and Corylus in a boreonemoral area. In Finland it is apparently associated with boreal deciduous trees. Full descriptions are given, as well as notes on the variability, ecology and geographic distribution of each species.
... (Figs. 1 and 2). This species was recently described from Brazil by Karstedt and Capelari [22] based on mor- phological characteristics (characterized by the dark brown campanulate pileus with a subvelutinous surface, becoming strongly cracked with age; cheilocystidia cylindrical, clabate, or ventricose; hymeniform pileipellis composed by clavate, ovoid, globose, or ventricose elements with intracellular brownish coagulated pigment). However, they did not perform the phylogenetic analyses with related genera although they provided the ITS and nLSU sequences. ...

Two Entoloma species, E. eugenei and E. subaraneosum, are described here as newly recorded species in Korea. These two species were recently described from far Eastern Asia, Primorsky Territory of Russia, and Jilin province of China, respectively. Here, these species were reported based on internal transcribed spacer and partial large subunit of ribosomal RNA sequences, and macro-and microscopic characteristics for the first time in Korea.
... Comments -In the phylogeny, E. hymenidermum and E. violaceotinctum cluster with species that have bluish basidiomata with a finely to distinctly velutinous or tomentose pileus surface, a hymeniform-type (calliderm or erect trichoderm) pileipellis, strongly and distinctly angular basidiospores, and an outer pileus trama of cylindric cells, at least on the disc. Species with a hymeniform type pileipellis are often recognized in Calliderma (Aime et al. 2010;Karstedt & Capelari 2010). However, E. kermandii G.M. Gates & Noordel., which also falls in this clade, possesses a cutis, a feature inconsistent with the generic circumscription of Calliderma. ...
... Furthermore, C. pruinatocutis (E. Horak) Karstedt & Capelari and C. rimosum Karstedt & Capelari (Karstedt et al. 2010) are placed in a distant and unrelated clade (Baroni & Matheny 2011). Without support for the monophyly of Calliderma, we classify the species described here as Entoloma. ...

Seven new species in the Prunuloides clade of the Entolomataceae are described here: Entoloma hymenidermum is diagnosed by blackish blue basidiomata, isodiametric basidiospores and moderately broad pileocystidia; E. violaceotinctum has a violet-tinged pileus, violaceous-tinged stipe, and broad inflated pileocystidia; E. discoloratum possesses a subviscid yellow-tinged white pileus; E. kewarra is distinguished by its yellow pileus and stipe, both with a white and then eventually greenish yellow context; E. pamelae has a smooth, bright yellow, dry pileus; E. rugosiviscosum has a yellow-brown, rugose viscid pileus; and E. guttulatum is distinguished by lamellae with droplets that become reddish brown on drying.
... Clampconnections abundant in hymenium, scattered in other tissues. Notes -The collections studied match well with the original description of E. callidermum from Africa, which also has been recorded from various other tropical areas (Horak 1980, Karstedt & Capelari 2010. It is a striking species with a deep blue and velvety pileus, which shows in radial section a perfect hymeniderm of clavate elements, also called a calliderm. ...

Species from Entoloma subg. Entoloma are commonly recorded from both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres and, according to literature, most of them have at least Nearctic-Palearctic distributions. However, these records are based on morphological analysis, and studies relating morphology, molecular data and geographical distribution have not been reported. In this study, we used phylogenetic species recognition criteria through gene genealogical concordance (based on nuclear ITS, LSU, rpb2 and mitochondrial SSU) to answer specific questions considering species limits in Entoloma subg. Entoloma and their geographic distribution in Europe, North America and Australasia. The studied morphotaxa belong to sect. Entoloma, namely species like the notorious poisonous E. sinuatum (E. lividum auct.), E. prunuloides (type-species of sect. Entoloma), E. nitidum and the red-listed E. bloxamii. With a few exceptions, our results reveal strong phylogeographical partitions that were previously not known. For example, no collection from Australasia proved to be conspecific with the Northern Hemisphere specimens. Almost all North American collections represent distinct and sister taxa to the European ones. And even within Europe, new lineages were uncovered for the red-listed E. bloxamii, which were previously unknown due to a broad morphological species concept. Our results clearly demonstrate the power of the phylogenetic species concept to reveal evolutionary units, to redefine the morphological limits of the species addressed and to provide insights into the evolutionary history of key morphological characters for Entoloma systematics. New taxa are described, and new combinations are made, including E. fumosobrunneum, E. pseudoprunuloides, E. ochreoprunuloides and E. caesiolamellatum. Epitypes are selected for E. prunuloides and E. bloxamii. In addition, complete descriptions are given of some other taxa used in this study for which modern descriptions are lacking, viz. E. subsinuatum, E. whiteae, E. flavifolium, E. luridum, E. bloxamii, E. madidum, E. corneri, E. callidermum and E. coeruleoviride.

A new material collected and the holotype of Entoloma azureoviride were studied. The analysis of these specimens showed some discrepancies with the protologue which are discussed here. The diagnostic characters of this species are the following: fibrillose pileus, blue lamellae, cuboid spores, and abundant oleiferous hyphae in the lamellae trama. It was also observed a peculiar pseudoparenchymatous pileus trama consisting of inflated elements up to 25 µm in diam., that become more elongated towards the hymenium. A comparison of E. azureoviride with other species with blue tints in the subgenus Inocephalus and a discussion about its morphological peculiarity are provided.

Fifteen species of the genus Entoloma, found in high elevations of Nevado de Colima and the Tequila volcanos, both in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, are presented. Their macromorphological and micromorphological structures are described and general characteristics of their habitat; furthermore, comments about their distinctive features and similar species in the literature are given. Of these 15 species, three are described as new, 11 represent the first records for Mexico, and the remaining one is the second record for the country. The species generally show much resemblance to Entoloma taxa described from the Southern United States of America and to a lesser extent, those of Europe.
