When Michelangelo’s David was moved to the Accademia Gallery in 1873, due to poor conservation conditions, the city of Florence waited until 1910 to have a copy in the original location in front of Palazzo Vecchio. The artist Luigi Arrighetti was commissioned with the work, after a dedicated public tender, which provided for the execution in marble of a copy that was completely identical to the original.
The restoration will start in 2022.
