Actor David Strathairn visits Seward House Museum in Auburn for film research

AUBURN, N.Y. (AP) — Oscar-nominated actor David Strathairn (streh-THEHRN') has visited the Seward House Museum, a historic home in central New York, to research his role in Stephen Spielberg's upcoming film on Abraham Lincoln.

The Auburn Citizen reports that Strathairn made a surprise visit to the Seward House Museum in Auburn Thursday.

He was researching the life of William Henry Seward, who was New York's governor before serving as Lincoln's secretary of state during the Civil War.

Spielberg's Lincoln film begins production this fall in Virginia and is scheduled for a fall 2012 release. The film's other stars include Daniel Day-Lewis as Lincoln.

Strathairn was nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of journalist Edward R. Murrow in the 2005 drama "Good Night, and Good Luck." His other work includes roles in "The Sopranos" and "The Bourne Ultimatum."
