Australian Open: Gael Monfils with good prospects in the round of 16

The fact that Gael Monfils will play against a Serbian opponent in the round of 16 of the Australian Open 2022 must have been clear to the Frenchman after the draw. Monfils will be relieved to note that Miomir Kecmanovic will be up against Sunday. Actually, Novak Djokovic would have waited, but as is well known, he is not allowed to take part in the first major of the year. Monfils' record against Djokovic is devastating: on the ATP tour, the 35-year-old lost all 17 games against the number one in the world.
So Monfils' prospects are very good after beating Cristian Garin 7: 6 (4), 6: 1, 6: 3. Kecmanovic, who can hold his own against Lorenzo Sonego in four sets, should certainly not be underestimated: Gael Monfils won the only game so far in autumn 2021 at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris-Bercy in just three sets. The quarter-finals in Melbourne 2022 would be a logical continuation of Monfils' good start to the season.
Monfils wins in Adelaide
Because the tennis year started with the tournament victory in Adelaide.
