Can you guess which UK city has been named one of the ugliest places in the world?

According to the internet, it’s even uglier than deteriorated post-Soviet towns

Beautiful cobbled streets, stunning old houses, quaint pubs, maybe some stunning scenery. A tonne of towns in the UK are blessed with some or all of the above, and many are postcard-worthy, known simply for their abundance of beauty.

According to a load of internet users, however, one UK city has none of that stuff. Relying heavily on input from users on Reddit, finance website Insider Monkey has compiled a list of the world’s ugliest cities – and one place in the UK made the top ten.

None other than SwanseaWales’ second city, made the cut. Abertawe (as it’s known in Welsh) was ranked as the seventh-ugliest place on the planet.

Now, do we agree with Insider Monkey’s ranking? Honestly, not at all. Have you seen Swansea’s beachfront? Its magnificent castle? Its Grade II-listed Mumbles Pier? It’s all goddamn gorgeous. And that’s not even touching on its nightlife, which is beautiful in its own way. Plus, it might be getting a brand-new beachfront music festival next summer

Other cities that featured in Insider Monkey’s ranking were LA and Sao Paulo, which were both considered ugly sprawling metropolises by Reddit users. Swansea ranked uglier than the likes of Norilsk in Russia, Chisinau in Moldova and Hull, which was described as ‘the epitome of unattractiveness’.

Just in case you need any further proof that Swansea is far from ugly, here is a pic from Jess Phillips, Time Out Social Media Editor and Swansea backer to-the-hilt.

If you’re calling that ugly, maybe you need your eyes checked.

Did you see that these are the most scenic rail journeys in the UK, according to the Guardian?
