Adam Shankman is set to direct the 2013 live-action Nutcracker movie for New Line, Deadline reports. Screenwriter Darren Lemke’s version of everyone’s favorite battle between rodents and shoe-throwers has more of an action/adventure/fantasy angle to it than other interpretations of the 1816 story, and this iteration has been kicking around New Line since 2009. This will be Shankman’s third film for the studio, after Hairspray and the soon-to-be-finished Rock of Ages, so it’ll probably be a really subtle, probing take on dreaminess and nascent sexuality. Kidding! It’s definitely going to be a lot of everything.
