Description
The Greek word ‘Alypon’ means to relieve pain, referring to its former usage.
The leaves produce a yellow dye.

The flowers are packed into a dense, rounded, blue-lilac head, with a darker circle in the middle. The flowerhead is surrounded by a frilled collar of bracts.
