RECTORY – EMERGENCY ONLY
419-874-2217
Dear Friends,
Here’s another construction update. Our tuckpointing
project is almost completely finished. The last
remaining task is to replace the broken stone (mostly
on the west side of the bell tower) and that should be
completed fairly soon.
The statue of St. Rose is scheduled to return to
her spot above the main doors on July 31.
We have permission from the diocese and insurance company to proceed
with repairing the steeple. We hope the work starts soon. The completion date
will probably be around the end of October. There will be two main parts of the
project: 1) Replacing the top 1/3 of the steeple with a new structure and cross;
and 2) Repairing the church lightning protection system. When finished, our
steeple will be the same height and style as before, though the top part will have
new copper. It will take several years for that copper to develop the green
“patina.” The repaired lightning protection system will meet all current standards
and codes.
This project will cost about $345,000, and is covered by our diocesan selfinsurance
program as well as the diocesan catastrophic insurance plan. Surely, we
can be very grateful to have such a comprehensive insurance plan through the
Diocese of Toledo. The diocesan insurance program has already paid about
$25,000 for repairs to our bell controls, lights, phone, and for the mitigation of
some water damage up in the choir loft. Again, we are very grateful for this kind
of insurance coverage.
I will keep you posted on the steeple project in the coming weeks.
This Wednesday, August 1, the parish pastoral staff will have a retreat day
at the Lial Renewal Center. On August 2, I will leave for some vacation,
returning August 13. Thank you for your continued prayers and encouragement.
Summer Blessings,
RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS
Mary Van Brackel was a sponsor in the RCIA this
year. She shares her experience: “My journey of faith in
the RCIA began when I was asked to be a sponsor. I
actually went through the RCIA program myself, as a
candidate (baptized), two years after I was married, so I
thought it would be fun and rewarding to help someone else walk that journey
to the Catholic faith.
My instincts were right. I enjoyed the weekly sessions, the speakers,
and meeting new people at St. Rose. RCIA is a great opportunity to share
your faith with someone who is looking for God and a church family. The
rewards are touching, as you see these adults grow in their faith each week,
and are welcomed into the Church at the Easter Vigil.”
For information about the RCIA call Diane Hider at 419-874-1165 or
the parish office at 419-874-4559. Inquiry is not commitment. Now is a
Theology of the Body event with Christopher West
Join renowned author and speaker Christopher West along with Mike Mangione & the Union
for an evening of beauty and reflection on Pope John Paul II’s Theology of the Body—a bold
and contemporary understanding of human love in the divine plan. Through visual art, live
musical performance, and West’s inspiring presentations, come to know the “whys” behind the
“what” of the Catholic understanding of human sexuality.
“Fill These Hearts” - God, Sex, and the Universal Longing will be presented at the Franciscan Center Theatre
of Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio on Saturday evening, November 17, at 7:00 p.m. Tickets will be
available through your parish office and the TOBA website: www.tobanwo.org beginning around mid-August.
Ticket Prices: General Admission $25; Students $20; Group Rate (10+) $15; Priests, deacons, and religious are
free (but must register).
What if I’m not Catholic, is it for me? West’s reflections on JP II’s teachings and the art that illuminates them
are not just for Catholics but for everyone.
I’ve been to one or more of West’s seminars, is there something new in it for me? The themes you’ve come
to know through TOB will now come alive through music, visual art, and live performance.
How can I get involved? First, pray for the “Fill These Hearts” event. Second, partner with Theology of the
Body Advocates and become a sponsoring parish, organization, business, or individual. Third, help to promote
this event within your parish or organization. Together, we can help others to learn the truth about human
sexuality and the very meaning of life. For more information contact:
BOOTH AWARDS
SCHOLARSHIP TO
ST. ROSE GRADUATE
L o ng t ime fr ie nd a nd
benefactor of St. Francis de Sales
High School and a St. Rose parishioner, Mr. George
Booth, has established an endowed fund to provide
an incentive scholarship to an outstanding scholarathlete
currently attending St. Francis de Sales. Mr.
Booth established this award in 1998 and recently
selected Kyle Lach, senior, to receive the
scholarship. Lach is the son of James and Julie Lach
of Perrysburg, also St. Rose parishioners.
The scholarship is awarded to a freshman,
sophomore or junior athlete in any varsity sport at St.
Francis. The student-athlete must have at least a
cumulative grade point average of 4.0. Selection is
made from among nominees at the beginning of the
previous 4 th quarter to be applied to the following
academic year.
Mr. Booth feels very good about choosing
Lach. “Fr. Ron and I took the young man to lunch at
Stella’s in Perrysburg. Kyle is a gentleman, a very
nice, impressive young man. He is a good product of
a St. Rose education. He is a nice athlete, works hard
at St. Francis and he’s going to The Ohio State
University.”
"Kyle has matured into a young man with a
healthy balance in his life,” said Coach Jim Neary.
“He ranks near the top of his class academically, he
runs at a very competitive level, and he understands
the importance of friends, family, and faith.”
