This Edward III Gold Double Florin was found by a detectorist in the south of 

England. Issued in 1343, it was estimated to fetch around £150,000. It is only the 

third example to be found (the other two are in the British Museum), so it is also the 

only one in private hands. The coin was auctioned by Spinks and achieved a record 

breaking price of £460,000!
