The Amiga Returns with the A500 Mini Console

Retro Games, who previously released the C64 Mini have announced that at the start of 2022 they will release the A500 Mini. This new mini of a retro machine will include 25 games built in, and allow you to plug in a USB drive to allow you to play other games.

Excitingly the A500 Mini will come with both a mouse, which may be a first for a mini console, and also a joypad which is a near replica of the Amiga CD32 controller.

Unfortunately, like the C64 Mini, the keyboard on the machine will be purely cosmetic and not usable. The Amiga 500 machine had a keyboard built into the machine, but at this mini size the keyboard wouldn’t be very practical. Like the C64 Mini, you’ll be able to use a virtual keyboard which should be easier to navigate with the A500 Mini’s joypad compared to the joystick that came with the C64.

25 games will be included with the machine and so far they have announced the following:

Alien Breed 3D, Another World, ATR: All Terrain Racing, Battle Chess, Cadaver, Kick Off 2, Pinball Dreams, Simon The Sorcerer, Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe, The Chaos Engine, Worms: The Director’s Cut, Zool: Ninja Of The ”Nth” Dimension.

This list is sure to bring back memories for many players with the highlights being Alien Breed 3D, Simon the Sorcerer, The Chaos Engine, Worms and Zool.

Another 13 games will be announced at a later date, and we’ll have our fingers crossed for the likes of Monkey Island, Dizzy, Cannon Fodder, Gloom and perhaps by some miracle if a deal could be done with Sony, the legendary Lemmings.

Brilliantly it’s been confirmed that the A500 Mini will be compatible with A500, A600 and A1200 games, so although it looks like a mini Amiga 500, it actually has scope for so much more of the Amiga library of games.

The A500 Mini will release early next year and is available to pre-order now.
