Richard Bilton

What is the best part of your job?

I love the variety. I love that I get to meet people with great stories and I love that I do it for the BBC.

What are you most proud of?

I'm proud of those pieces that make an issue or story easier to understand.

I did a piece for the Six O'clock news recently about children with cancer.

The kids were inspirational and the piece was full of hope because most young people get better.

I was proud to be telling their stories.

What has been your worst on-air moment?

I once interviewed the wrong woman live on the One O'clock news.

I turned right instead of left and launched into a rather combative exchange with a lady who didn't know who I was.

She came out of it rather well.

What stories interest you?

I'm interested in grass-roots stories - those that affect people's lives directly.

Your News is great because it makes journalism accessible - getting people to tell their stories directly.

What are your top three songs?

Blimey. Well it would have to be the first three songs on the Arctic Monkeys album - but it'll be different again next week!

How do you spend your free time?

I've got a wife and two young kids. All my spare time is with them. Anytime on my own I head for the hills - I love fell walking.
