This large-scale latticed steel painted head is a landmark designed to represent the industrial heritage of Newton Aycliffe and the North East. The steel head stands proud, looking over the foliage below. On the head are six nearly life-size figures of workmen who appear as if continually working. Each 1.37-metre tall steel-profiled figure is based on an actual workman at Aycliffe Fabrications who manufactured the sculpture. 'In Our Image' is known locally as 'The Head' or 'Aycliffe Head'.
