Aviemore

Active Aviemore - natural health service on the doorstep! - Cairngorms National Park Authority

Aviemore is the heart of the Spey Valley and has been for years. The town has grown ferociously over the last 30 years and has changed dramatically from the town that was dominated by the old Stakis Hotel Group concrete ‘centre’. These days it feels like a town shaped by the MacDonald Hotel Group who have developed the centre well and added some good restaurants, a large leisure complex with gym, wave pool, softplay etc. The only negative is that the pool has been made very expensive to non-residents.

Aviemore is well serviced by 2 large supermarkets and a glut of outdoor shops where there are bargains to be had. The fish monger is also worth a mention. There are also a decent amount of pubs and restaurants ranging from take away pizza and burgers to a more upmarket feel at the MacDonald Steak House or their flagship Aspects Restaurant.

The town is located within the Rothiemurchus Estate and over the inconsistent snow years this area has developed more towards outdoor activities both summer and winter: bikes and other equipment can be rented in the town and there is a good amount of information available on the website below.

There is a good Health Centre located towards the northern end of the town and also a good vets. Numbers can be found on the contacts page.
