Meet the Artist // Michael Sowa
If you read this post, you probably know that Amélie is one of my favourite films.I’ve watched it like 15 times, in English, Italian and French. I never get tired of it, I simply adore this film…and I know I’m not the only one. That said, if you’ve seen it even once, you’ve probably noticed the wall artworks hanging on Amélie’s bed and the pig lamp. Have you ever wondered whose artworks are these? They are all by artist Michael Sowa, a German artist who studied in the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin. His work, fanciful and surreal, is often compared to that of the surrealist artist René Magritte.
“A constant theme in his work is animals of all kinds. This includes domestic and wild animal. His paintings are very surreal and delight children and adults alike. Art critics have described his work as breathtaking, whimsical, and delightful. His work often has a humorous and playful side to it. However despite this humorous side some of his work is extremely powerful.” (via Michael Sowa Prints)
and last but not least, the Pig lamp. It can be purchased here
