East Looe Beach

In Brief

Name: EAST LOOE BEACH
Suitable for: Families and kids
Location: Central seafront in Looe
Parking: Plenty of parking around Looe
Dog friendly?: No

There’s nothing like a classic old-style family beach. One that the kids can build sandcastles on. One that’s next to good shops, attractions and eateries. One that is popular during the summer but seldom crowded. And one that is great for swimmers of all abilities. Well, that pretty much summed up East Looe Beach.

Swimming is the order of the day off the south-facing East Looe Beach, which is the most central beach in Looe and sits right next to the town’s famous estuary. The gently sloping sands here make for easy access to the sea, especially for kids who want to go out and explore these clean, safe and shallow waters. Back on land, the sand on the beach is perfect for building castles and tunnels, so the little monsters are in their element here. Note that East Looe’s eastern end is rockier than its more popular western end.

The beach is backed by plenty of sea defences and there’s a promenade you can walk along after spending a few hours sunbathing and taking a dip. It’s obviously close to the town as well, so top shops and eateries are just a stone’s throw away. Banjo Pier is also next to the beach and this is a top spot for the kids to go crabbing off.

Dogs are not allowed on East Looe Beach, though, and there is no lifeguard service. But to reiterate: swimming in the waters here is safe in the summer. This is simply a traditional old beach that never fails to win the hearts of its many visitors every year.
