AYR The Deep End Shirt Review

AYR The Deep End Shirt
Shirt (comes in blue and white)

I can't believe I have not done a comprehensive post on AYR's The Deep End shirt! You will likely recognize it as it is something I wear practically weekly, and it's also about as classic as you can get!

AYR is a newer brand that stands for All Year Round, and they focus on making classic wardrobe basics and things designed to be worn... year round.

The Deep End is their classic button-down shirt made in a handful of fabrics: cotton poplin, oxford cloth, linen, and chambray. I personally prefer the oxford cloth, which is 100% cotton and has a slight texture to it. I *love* oxford cloth.

This shirt is totally part of my everyday uniform. This shirt, jeans, and flats look so polished but are so simple and timeless!

The quality is top-notch. The oxford cloth is soft but still has structure, and the shade of blue is truly perfect, as is the beautifully crisp white.

This shirt is comparable in style and fabric to Ralph Lauren's iconic oxford shirt. However, I like the fit on this better, and I think this fabric is better quality. I also prefer the shirt without the RL logo, so this is just a better shirt, in my opinion.

It looks best ironed on high heat with starch or pressed at the dry cleaners. While wearing, some subtle wrinkles will form, but it never wrinkles enough to look sloppy or unkempt.

Since it is 100% cotton, it will shrink. I don't advise drying (even though it says you can dry it on low). I accidentally dried one of mine once, and while the shrinking wasn't horrible, I think it messed up the integrity of the fit so much so that I purchased another.

Sizing
This shirt runs very roomy/generous. I would not suggest sizing down because it is supposed to be slightly oversized. However, you could size down if you plan to wear it under many things. My true size small is what I am wearing, and I find that whenever I want to layer the shirt under a crewneck sweater, sometimes it's too much fabric that layers up, and it becomes unflattering. As you can see below, in the many ways I have worn this shirt, I mostly wear it untucked or half tucked in the front!

Overall, I could not recommend this shirt more for a high-quality, timeless piece of clothing that you will get so much wear out of and it will be in your closet for many years to come.

I love seeing all the ways you wore it - helpful for me to have fresh ideas for styling similar tops.

I love this shirt!!! Noticed it wears out a bit in the armpit seams - but then again I wear it weekly and haven't been careful with drying - good tip!
