If you are looking for the perfect way to start your day, look no further my friends for I have found it. It does require an early start but it’s well worth it.
The Beach Littlehampton is a cool place to hang out. It opened in 2020 and is a purpose-built, wooden beach club with a café, a roof terrace, and lots going on. It’s right on the beach which means in winter you can enjoy the wild waves from the snug of the inside, sitting in amongst surfboards and in the summer, you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the beach. It’s also dog friendly – inside and out.
Start your day in the perfect way
When I said there’s a lot going on, I really meant it. Apart from the cafe, they also offer kitesurfing, paddleboarding, wing foiling, windsurfing, skateboarding and pilates, yoga, fitness, and dance – all with experienced instructors.
I joined them for a Sunrise Stretch (a 6.15 am Pilates class). It’s held on the roof terrace, and I can’t think of a more awesome place to start the day. There’s always a certain kind of calm at that time of the morning on the seafront and there is definitely a very unique energy waking up with a stretch overlooking the sea and listening to the sound of the wind and the waves.
Even though it was a fresh morning, I had to pinch myself that I hadn’t been transported somewhere really exotic. Lying back on the wooden boards, with the recently arisen sun warming your face, you feel inspired, ready to start the day with renewed vigour.
Fancy a quickie?
Because if you really fancy it, you can join your instructor for a quick dip in the sea after your stretch. It’s not compulsory but it is invigorating and a wonderful way to start a day. You’re not in for long and there’s a hot shower and a warm cup of coffee waiting for you back at the café when you’re done. But wow, food for the soul indeed.
There is free parking opposite the cafe until 8 am (I was finished by then having done Pilates, had a swim, and had a coffee and a chat with the coolest group of ladies who had been in my class.) But you won’t want to leave. It just feels like the sort of place you want to be. So if you love the sea, get yourself down there.
