Day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 3-13.

About us

Elstree School is a day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 3-13 in Woolhampton, Berkshire. Set in idyllic grounds of 150 acres, an hour from west London, Elstree offers a secure environment for pupils to be nurtured and inspired. Proud of its reputation as a school with high academic, creative and sporting achievements, pupils from Elstree have gained places to some of the top senior schools, including Bradfield, Radley College, Eton College, Marlborough College, Stowe, Wellington and Winchester. Forty-five scholarships and exhibitions have been awarded to Elstree pupils since 2015. While success is something celebrated, Elstree also encourages pupils to be open, compassionate and tolerant of others. Through enrichment programmes and an outstanding array of extra curriculum activities, Elstree provides an environment where both girls and boys can develop the skills necessary to thrive in today’s world. Elstree is large enough to accommodate its own Nursery and Pre-Prep, two state of the art Science laboratories, new Music School, full size all-weather pitch, outdoor pool, forest for outdoor learning and camping, and a lake for kayaking, yet with an intake of around 240, is small enough to remain personal and family-focused. A weekly London bus collects from Earls Court and Hammersmith on Monday mornings. Daily buses run from Basingstoke and West Reading, with intermittent buses from Brightwalton and Hungerford. Our next Open Morning is on Saturday 10th October 2020 between 10am and 12 noon. Reserve your place via https://www.elstreeschool.org.uk/admissions/open-days/ or email Registrar Mrs Tish Gauci: registrar@elstreeschool.org.uk

We are delighted to share the news that Kate has been awarded a Drama Scholarship to Downe House School. Kate’s confidence, enthusiasm and natural ability have seen her justly rewarded. She has achieved a LAMDA Grade 5 Distinction for Solo Acting and recently played starring roles as Fiona in Shrek and the White Witch in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. A regular Declamations finalist, it was also wonderful to see Kate awarded the trophy as this year’s winner. Huge congratulations Kate, this is so well deserved and we can’t wait to see how your acting career progresses at Downe House, they will be lucky to have you. #elstreedrama #prepschooldrama #prepschoolscholarships #seniorschool

Mr and Mrs Inglis were honoured to be invited to this year’s ‘Monkton School Knight Lecture’. It was fascinating to be part of a conversation on Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging, an increasingly important focus at Elstree. Chris Wheeler, Headmaster at Monkton Combe School hosted a panel of three expert contributors: ISRAEL OYELUMADEJulia Strachan and Mark Browning. A special moment in the evening was the unveiling of the Marshall sledge, which commemorates one of the original sledges from the Shackleton Expedition. This was followed by a delicious dinner in the company of pupils, staff, parents, governors and friends of Monkton School. Thank you for an inspiring, thought-provoking and very special evening. #monktonbath #monktoncombeschool #equality #diversity #inclusion #belonging #seniorschool #berkshireprepschool #shackletonexpedition

We were delighted to welcome Mrs Nicola Huggett, Head of Cheltenham College, to preach on Saturday. The pupils enjoyed the questions that Mrs Huggett asked as part of her sermon. It was a particularly special morning at Elstree as we welcomed 80 grandparents to the service. Grandparents’ Morning is always a highlight of the Summer Term at Elstree. After coffee and refreshments in the Long Room, the grandparents were taken on tours of Elstree by their grandchildren, before enjoying a beautiful vocal concert in the McMullen Hall. #berkshireprepschool #familyvalues #community #grandparentsday #prepschoollife #cheltenhamcollege

We are delighted to have featured in The Week's annual Best of the Best guide to the UK’s leading Prep Schools. Supporting our local community is hugely important to us. Whether it is our Year 7 pupils working with children from PALS, our Year 2s making arts and crafts with patients from Stroke Care, our Chapel Choir performing at charity Carol Concerts, raising funds for local charities through our school events or inviting local primary schools to share our grounds and facilities at sporting events, we are proud to see Elstree children recognise the positive role they play in supporting each other and those around them. With thanks to The Week magazine for recognising our commitment to our community - and thanks to our pupils and staff for their constant kindness in these many endeavours! #elstreecommunity #communitymatters #charityevents #elstreeprepschool #theweekmagazine

We are thrilled to announce that Harry has been awarded a Sports Exhibition to Winchester College – the 10th Scholarship and Exhibition success for our Year 8 pupils so far this year! Harry is a fantastic all-round Sportsman, playing for the Elstree 1st teams in Rugby, Football and Hockey. We are very excited about the forthcoming Cricket Season – where he will lead out the 1st XI team as Captain. With cricket very much ‘his thing’, we are delighted that Harry has also been selected to represent Hampshire at a County level. A keen member of the Elstree Chapel Choir, Harry has led this talented group and opened a number of Carol Concerts with his beautiful singing of Once in Royal David’s City. Harry has made us all proud over his years at Elstree and we are delighted that he has very recently and deservedly been awarded the role of Deputy Head Boy; he is a fine role model to our younger Elstree children. Very well done Harry – this Exhibition is so well deserved and we look forward to hearing of your future success at Winchester College. #elstreescholarships #elstreexhibitions #sportsexhibition #elstreesports #elstreeprepschool #seniorschools #winchestercollege

Huge congratulations to Kitty who has been awarded a Drama Scholarship to Canford School. Taking on the role as the villainous Farquaad in the Year 8 performance of Shrek, Kitty not only wowed the crowds with her acting; the stage set was based on her own design and a spectacular backdrop for the whole production. Kitty’s acting talent has also seen her win Elstree Declamations, where she recited a powerful monologue from stage sensation, Hamilton. At the end of Lent Term, she was awarded The Hull Cup for her outstanding contribution to Drama during her time at Elstree. A keen Sportswoman too, Kitty has represented the Girls 1st teams in Hockey, Netball and Football and her skill in batting and bowling will hold a lasting legacy on Elstree’s cricket pitches. We are sure Kitty will continue to thrive at Canford School and look forward to hearing of her onward success both on and off the stage. Well done Kitty! #elstreescholarships #elstreexhibitions #dramascholarship #elstreeperformingarts #scholarshipsuccess #elstreeprepschool #seniorschools
