Woolworths opened in Galashiels in October 1932. It was a purpose-built store of 5 bays with a central pediment. The below photo was taken shortly conversion to self-service. You can see the ‘Way In’ sign just through the window. It was a one-way system in and out.

The store lasted until the end, closing in January 2009.

Today it is a Home Bargains. If you are ever in Galashiels, look up and you will see the red-brick Woolworths architecture.
