Ich kenne die beiden erst seit knapp 3 Wochen. Als ich sie in Aupeo! das erste Mal hörte, musste ich sofort gucken, welche Band das ist. Anschließend sah ich im Internet so ziemlich alle Videos an, die ich finden konnte, und war noch mehr begeistert. Mein allererster Reflex, als ich sie im Video sah, war wie vermutlich bei vielen anderen Erst-Sehern auch: "Was, die sind nur zu zweit?".

Es ist unglaublich, wie die beiden ganz alleine diese energiereiche, vorwärtstreibende, zugleich rythmische wie melodische, sehr ungewöhnliche Musik machen, die mich regelrecht in einen Sog hineinzieht. Faszinierend auch, wie der Sänger und Schlagzeuger Steven Ansell es schafft, so laut und agressiv zu singen, und dabei doch jeden Ton absolut präzise und klar singt und nebenher auch noch kräftig auf das Schlagzeug eindrischt.

Ich kannte die Band also außer von dem einen Lied von Aupeo! nur von Live-Aufnahmen.

Dann kam als erste der bestellten CDs das 2012-er Album "In Time To Voices" bei mir an - und: ich war enttäuscht. Da hatte wohl irgendein Produzent die Band im Studio total glatt gebügelt. All das Kantige und Agressive fehlt. Es ist zwar immer noch erkennbar die Musik der beiden, aber auf diesem Level ist es eigentlich nur normale und dann tendenziell eher langweilige Rockmusik.... so war mein Eindruck.

Und offenbar war dies auch der Eindruck des Duos:
Denn wie man liest, haben sie diese letzte CD ohne Produzenten ganz alleine in einem Berliner Studio aufgenommen und produziert, das sie für 3 Monate zur Verfügung gestellt bekamen.

UND DAS WAR GUT SO! Diese CD ist wieder so, wie mir die Band am besten gefällt!

Und der Oberknüller ist die Bonus CD ("14 Photographs"):
14 Stücke, live auf der Europa Tournee 2012 aufgenommen!

Dort kann man dann die Stücke der "In Time To Voices" CD so hören, wie sie eigentlich hätten klingen müssen: Rauh, treibend und mitreißend! (Bei Amazons Auto-Rip des Albums fehlt diese Live-CD, also unbedingt beim Kauf als MP3 darauf achten, dass die Bonus-CD enthalten ist, sonst lieber die CD-Variante kaufen, es lohnt sich!)

Wenn ich mir für eine Band etwas wünsche, dann für diese beiden den eigentlich schon lange verdienten Durchbruch - dass sie nicht mehr jedes Jahr auf 200-Konzerte-Tourneen von Club zu Club ziehen müssen...

There is a certain honesty with this album that makes it stand out from other bands.
Blood Red Shoes went awol to a lockup in Germany and slogged out a multitude of recordings to create this.
The fact that the album is recorded and produced completely by themselves gives the record very a pure and uncut feel.
I look forward to their next release and to see them harness their new found powers on their next album.
