The building dates back to the 17th century, when it served as a coaching inn and was the focal point of the village. The Sun Inn was said to be John Peel’s favourite haunt, and was also visited by Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins. In 1818 the poet John Keats visited Ireby and stayed at The Sun during a walking holiday of the area. It is now a stunning cottage combining a mix of traditional features with contemporary style throughout. The cottage has an open aspect at the back with superb views of the Uldale Fells.
