James M. Jett of the 82nd Training Wing Safety Office was named the the 82nd TRW "Commander's Wingman of Choice" award winner for the week of Dec. 3-7.

The 82nd Training Wing "Commander's Wingman of Choice" award program is the commander's way of acknowledging Airmen for a job well done and to recognize Airmen who exemplify the spirit of the program.

Criteria for consideration include outstanding duty performance, community involvement and exemplary leadership.

What inspires you: Young people and trying to keep up with them.

Future goals: To continue to grow as a Weapons Safety Manager so I can continue to assist the units with explosive operations maintain their outstanding explosive safety record.

Greatest accomplishment: Serving 22 years in the Air Force, over half as a single parent, and seeing my son grow into an accomplished young man, finishing my bachelors degree and retiring .

Hobbies, off-duty interests: Firing up the smoker, golf, shooting and reading.

Recent Accomplishments:  Mike's explosives program has experienced an astounding "ZERO" Class A, B, or C mishaps eight years running...this was a crucial element to the "Outstanding" May 2012 UCI rating!   He authored the "first-ever" fireworks Risk Assessment and created "first-ever" local instruction for Dull Sword reporting ; identified risk areas & detailed instructions; products lauded by IG SME.  As Weapons Safety Manager, he incorporated cutting-edge initiatives amidst C3 constraints/mishap prevention efforts...Mike is most deserving of this award!

Commander's comments: On a personal WSA Chief note, we submitted Mike for AETC annual awards in two categories for his outstanding efforts, in both the AETC Explosive Safety Excellence Award and the AETC Ground Safety Technician of the Year Award. To our dismay, Mike was not selected for either. Recognizing Mike as the December 2012 "82 TRW Commander's Wingman of Choice" from Sheppard AFB would speak volumes to recognize the efforts locally for Mike's dedication and work towards revitalizing and improving Sheppard's weapons safety program over the past 5 years!  - Mr. James Zillweger, 82nd Training Wing Chief of Safety
