When it comes to the most iconic timepieces of the recent generation, Casio’s G-Shock is a highlight among the list. First launched in 1983, the staple wristwatch celebrated its 40th anniversary with a bang in Bali, Indonesia, alongside guests across Southeast Asia and the rest of the world.

On December 1, Preview joined hundreds of representatives across the Southeast Asian region for Casio’s “Shock the World” event, backdropped by the picturesque setting of Potato Head Beach Club in Bali. Aside from the big 4-0, the celebration also featured campaigns such as “That’s Tough,” redefining concepts of “toughness” highlighted by the durable watch.
Among the distinguished guests included Casio Singapore’s Managing Director Shigeru Watanabe; Southeast Asia Regional Strategy and Planning Manager Hikaru Yoshida; Exclusive Officer Oh Takahashi; and the Father of G-Shock Kikuo Ibe, the star of the “Dear Younger Me” campaign that recounted his journey in creating the first-ever G-Shock watch.
The event was capped off by performances by 88rising artists Warren Hue and NIKI, while Casio also showcased a selection of brand-new G-Shock watches that transforms the recognizable silhouette.

1. G-D001 - 18k Gold Model Watch
Marking the 40th year of G-Shock, Casio leveraged AI tech to create the G-D001 as part of its “Break the Boundary” dream project. The golden timepiece has human designers to thank for its design framework, but it utilized the AI system which generated a 3D model optimizing structural strength, material characteristics, and the processing methods used.
After manual revisions by human minds, the result was the G-D001, an 18-carat gold watch with precision-molded forms of the bezel and band, achieved with the use of lost-wax casting processes used in creating jewelry. What makes the timepiece more unique is its dial-less design, and its use of solar cell technology for its charging system, which is mainly used for artificial satellites and cultivated in the space industry.
To top it all off, the G-D001 watch comes inside a unique packaging that appears like an art piece itself, featuring a golden-hyed design with model numbers of past and present G-Shock pieces.
The limited edition watch was auctioned at the world-renowned Phillips auction house, selling for $400,050 or approximately P22.1 million, with proceeds going to The Nature Conservancy.

In celebration of G-Shock's 40-year legacy, the Multiplex carbon edition models are a tribute to the toughness embodied by the original DW-5000C since 1983. Evolution has been gentle on its iconic facade, preserving its distinct look while advancing its function, performance, and materials. These editions boast bezels, bands, and monocoque cases crafted from three unique carbon materials, each methodically chosen for its distinct properties. Forged carbon shapes the bezels and bands, allowing intricate molding, while laminated carbon fortifies the band shafts against bending.

3. MTG-B3000CXD Mythical Golden Dragon
The G-Shock MTG-B3000CXD emerges as a distinctive tribute within the MT-G series. Crafted through an ingenious fusion of resin and metal, the watch boasts a bezel and band loop meticulously etched and laser machined to emulate dragon scales.
It’s also luxuriously adorned with a gold-colored ion-plated coating, with the scale pattern extending to the dial, while the back cover features an empowering depiction of a rising dragon. The MTG-B3000 incorporates a dual-core guard structure, uniting a carbon fiber-reinforced resin case with metal components.

4. GW-B5600CD - Charles Darwin Foundation
Born from a partnership with the Charles Darwin Foundation, these timepieces draw inspiration from the island's inhabitants, like the hammerhead shark, giant tortoise, and Darwin's finch. Each watch is accompanied by eco-conscious, plastic-free packaging, and combines solar-powered timekeeping with Bluetooth and radio control for heightened accuracy.

5. GA-2100RB-3A - G-Shock x Rich Brian
The Rich Brian collab model features the rugged GA-2100 watch, drawing inspiration from the Indonesian rapper’s guitar that captured his interest during his youth.
Accentuated by a striking salmon-pink hue and a unified seafoam green theme, the watch reflects Rich Brian’s distinctive style, while his signature graces the case back, and a salmon pink color loop serves as a captivating accent.
