Description
This package includes all official Quake II releases:
- Quake II:
A sequel in name only, this follow up to id’s 1996 Quake, is a first-person shooter revolving around the Earth-Strogg war. The Strogg alien race threatens the Earth, but Earth has launched a counter-offensive, Operation Alien Overlord. Overlord takes the battle to the Strogg homeworld with the ultimate objective of securing their capital city and killing their ruler.
As a FPS, Quake II contains a variety of weapons including the fall back Blaster, the Railgun, and the secret BFG10K. Health, armor, and ammunition pick-ups can be found during levels, as can the classic Quake’s Quad Damage power-up. Game play involves mowing down alien opponents as the player progresses through levels, completing in-game objectives. Quake II also comes with multiplayer support for Deathmatches.
- Quake II Mission Pack I: The Reckoning:
The first official mission pack for Quake II is an extension of the original, offering more weapons and opponents along with plenty of solid single-player and deathmatch levels.
The story starts off with the player being part of an elite commando force that must infiltrate a hostile alien city. Once inside, the player must scour industrial landscapes, crawl through waterways and air ducts, navigate treacherous canyons teeming with vicious mutants, stow away on an alien spacecraft and destroy the enemy's secret moon base.
New enemies include Gekks, the Repair Bot which has the ability to awaken dead Strogg, new types of guards, an enhanced Tank, and an Iron Maiden equipped with guided missiles. New weapons include the Phalynx Particle Cannon, the Ion Ripper, the Trap, and a power-up that increases rate of fire by four times.
- Quake II Mission Pack II: Ground Zero:
A Quake II add-on with a few new weapons, monsters, and levels. The Earth fleet attacking Stroggos is stranded in orbit due to a Strogg gravity well. The player has landed on the planet with one mission: destroy the gravity well.
New weapons include the chainsaw, the ETF (explosive-tipped flechette) rifle, the proximity mine launcher and the plasma beam. New power-ups include tesla mines, the defender sphere, the vengeance sphere, the hunter sphere, and the doppelganger.
New monsters include the turret and the stalker. Enhanced enemies are the medic commander and the daedalus. The medic commander can revive fallen monsters or attack with a hyperblaster. The daedalus features twin blasters and a power shield. All monsters have better AI.
- Quake II Netpack I: Extremities:
The Netpack is a collection of Quake II modifications made by fans of the game. Those mods are freely available through the internet, id Software however decided to put the best of them on one CD. Included are: Action Quake 2, Capture!, The C.H.A.O.S. Deathmatch, Red Rover, the Eraser Bot, Jail Break, Kick, Powerball, QWar 2, Rail Arena and Rocket Arena.
