'The Wiggly Trees' (Leptospermum Laevigatum) Cape Paterson.
The Coastal tea tree is endemic to south eastern Australia, and a true survivor of Australian Flora. The bushy, salt resistent shrub estabishes itself in many forms; young, tall sinewy trunks, with papery skin collects in groves, twisting and bending awkwardly. Then maturing into solid, gnarled and tortured limbs, leaning protectively over sandy pathways along the coastlines. Protective but fragile; Common but each unique. Their presence and the very nature of their random growth habit, insitils in me the relaxed and happy feeling of being near the beach!
This particularly grove of trees is at Cape Paterson, on the Bass Coast - and captures the gorgeous blue of the sky.
I try to capture subtle nuances of tone and light to describe the form and colour within my paintings, by using generous, confident marks and adequate volume of paint. Sometimes in layers or in a more immediate strokes.
It is professionally framed in a natural oak boxed frame ready for hanging.
