Mark Boal '91
Mark Boal is a screenwriter and producer for major motion pictures, including 2017’s Detroit. Boal won Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay in 2010 for The Hurt Locker, and in 2013 his film Zero Dark Thirty was nominated in both categories.
Boal’s production company, Page 1, blends film and television production with journalism and a style of on-the-ground reporting to create a unique form of storytelling in the entertainment business.
Before his entry into movie-making, Boal was an investigative journalist himself. He won acclaim in 1998 for his work in the Village Voice, reporting on the use of surveillance in the United States.
At Bronx Science, Boal was one of the debate’s team’s most successful members. He graduated from Oberlin College.
