Etymology of Indigofera:
Indigo is derived from the La. indicus, Gk. indikos, referring to India; La. ferax = bearing. Indigo is blue dye (cf I. tinctoria).
Etymology of cryptantha:
From Greek kryptos = "hidden"and anthos = "flower", referring to the relatively small and inconspicuous flowers or flowers that are hidden by enclosing bracts.
