Etymology of Thinopyrum:
Gk. thino = sand; pyros = wheat. The plant grows on beach dunes.
Etymology of distichum:
From the Latin, "distichous" means arranged in two vertical rows on opposite sides of an axis, from the Greek words 'di-' meaning 'two' and 'stichos' meaning "row".
