Etymology of Vicia:
Old Latin name for a vetch, used by Ovid and Virgil; possibly related to vincio = I bind; referring to some species’ clasping tendrils.
Etymology of benghalensis:
From the Hindu ‘benghal’ / ‘Bengal’ meaning ‘an Indian province’; and the Latin ‘ensis’ / ‘ensis’ meaning ‘adjectival suffix’.
