SUMMARY
Plant epiphytic, rosulate. Roots densely branching around the stem and interlaced with organic material derived from rotting leaves. Internodes very reduced. LEAVES: Prophyll ca. 10 cm long, 5 cm wide, intensely wine-coloured. Sheath inconspicuous. Petiole 9-15 cm long, reaching 2.5 cm in diameter, flattened adaxially, rounded abaxially. Leaf blade 74-100 cm long, 13-20 cm wide, coriaceous, oblanceolate, subspathulate, obtuse, shortly cuspidate at the apex, base cuneate, narrowed ca. 5 cm wide, unequal; midrib 2-3 cm wide at the base, thickened, becoming narrow towards the apex; primary lateral veins 18-20 on both sides, secondary and tertiary veins numerous, not very developed, glands abundant. INFLORESCENCE: 1-2 per floral sympodium. Peduncle 13-28 cm long, 0.3-1.5 cm in diameter, wine-coloured. Spathe 7-15 cm long, reaching 10 cm wide when expanded, stout, coriaceous, oblong, convolute; tube 4-6 cm long, dark wine-coloured externally, internally glossy wine-coloured; blade 3-9 cm long, cream externally, internally glossy wine-coloured. Spadix 11.8 cm long, stipitate; stipe ca. 0.7 cm long; female zone 4.4 cm long, 2.2 cm in diameter, oblong-elliptic; intermediate sterile male zone 1.2 cm long, 1.5 cm in diameter, cylindric; fertile male zone 5.5 cm long, 1.5 cm in diameter, oblong-subcylindric, apex obtuse. Flowers: Stamens 4-5 per flower with a length of 2 mm, 1.5 mm wide, narrowed towards the base; staminodes 1.5 mm long, 1.25 mm wide; gynoecium: 3-3.5 mm long, prismatic; ovary ca. 3 mm long, 0.75 mm in diameter; locules 4-5 per ovary; ovules 4-6 per locule, hemianatropous; placentation axile, biseriate; style 0.5-0.75 mm long, 1 mm in diameter, prismatic, quadrangular, stigma ca. 1 mm wide, discoid. INFRUCTESCENCE: 5-6 cm long; berry 5-5.5 mm long, pink, narrowed towards the base; seed ca. 1.25 mm long, 0.4 mm in diameter.
