Let's see if these can convince you that North End Halifax is the best Halifax
Intrigue
Ignore that it’s named after the controversial founder of Halifax, and embrace the pretty homes that line the street (as they do many in the North End)
I love this park! The Oval offers free rollerblading/ice skating and the Commons has great open areas and countless sports courts. Visit any time there’s a festival or good weather.
Technically not in the North, but it’s across the road from the Oval so count it! This is a beautiful community garden that is free to wander and has frequent harvests for sale at market.
UPDATE: As of December 2018, this site is no longer. I’ll revamp once the 2019 location is announced.
Bars & Restaurants
Hands down the busiest and most unique brewery, beloved by all that I’ve cross paths with. Under-rated bar food to boot, it reinvigorated my love of buffalo cauliflower.
EDNA is known for two things: incredible cocktails, and brunch (some say the best in the city, but I’ll let you decide)
Small portions that are meant to be consumed in large numbers. It always feels like I’m able to try flavour and spice combinations that I’d never considered, so come through if you need some culinary inspo.
aka “Salvatore’s” - this is a gourmet pizza shop which offers pies that you’ll think about for days afterward. Keep an eye on the specials board on the wall before you order, you will not regret it! If you’re not ready for a full pizza, try one of the Heros - they are next level.
More than a few would consider this the best restaurant in HRM, particularly for local seafood. NOTE: it’s a small venue and serves walk-in only, so get there early or be prepared to wait.
Dee Dee’s ice cream seems to be a Nova Scotia icon, probably due to the location in Peggys Cove. It’s dense and creamy and rich in flavour. Yet they also serve highly-regarded burritos! It’s a cute shop easily worth a visit.
