Kunzea pauciflora

Description

Kunzea pauciflora,commonly known as the Mt Melville kunzea is a flowering plant in the myrtle family,Myrtaceae and is endemic to the south coast of Western Australia.The erect and compact shrub typically grows to a height of 0.35 to 1.5 metres (1 to 5 ft).It blooms between August and November producing pink flowers.Often found on hillside and slopes in coastal areas of the Great Southern regions of Western Australia in a small area centred in the Fitzgerald River National Park where it grows in gravelly sandy or loamy soils over limestone or sandstone.The species was first formally described by the botanist Johannes Conrad Schauer in 1844 in Johann Georg Christian Lehmann's work Plantae Preissianae.The name of the plant is often misapplied to Kunzea affinis.The specific epithet pauciflora,refers to the Latin term for 'few flowered'.
