Kozhikode: In the latest addition to the list of the flora and fauna of the Western Ghats, a new plant belonging to the genus of Kuttipanal (Rutaceae family) has been named ‘Litsea Anamalayana’.

This plant is normally found in the evergreen forests on Nelliyampathy hill ranges that are 1000 feet above sea level. It was named ‘Anamalayana’ since it was found in the forests on the Anamalai hills. The researchers are planning to study the medicinal properties of the new plant.

Two botany researchers, Dr A J Robi, Assistant Professor at Bishop Abraham Memorial College, Thuruthicad, Pathanamthitta, and P S Udayan, Assistant Professor at Sree Krishna College, Guruvayoor, Thrissur, identified the new plant.
