Disney's 1996 adaptation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame found its Quasimodo in Tom Hulce. The actor came into the gig after earning big-screen credits for Animal House, Amadeus, Parenthood, Fearless, and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Hulce returned to the role for The Hunchback of Notre Dame II and went on to appear in Stranger Than Fiction and Jumper.

Esmeralda (Demi Moore)

Demi Moore lent her voice to The Hunchback of Notre Dame as Esmeralda, a woman who finally treats Quasimodo with respect. Before joining the animated favorite, Moore appeared in St. Elmo's Fire, About Last Night, We're No Angels, Nothing But Trouble, A Few Good Men, Indecent Proposal, Disclosure, and Now and Then.

Moore famously continued her box office run after Hunchback with titles like Striptease, G.I. Jane, Deconstructing Harry, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, Bobby, and Mr. Brooks. Later, Moore starred in The Joneses, Wild Oats, Rough Night, and Please Baby Please. Moore's memoir Inside Out was published in 2019, in which she recalls her childhood, rise to stardom, struggles with addiction, and romantic relationships.

Kevin Kline joined The Hunchback of Notre Dame as Captain Phoebus, a kind-hearted captain of the guard who is in love with Esmeralda. Kline took on the voice gig after previously earning credits for The Big Chill, Silverado, Cry Freedom, Sophie's Choice, Love You to Death, Grand Canyon, Chaplin, Dave, and French Kiss. He took home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1989 for his role as Otto in A Fish Called Wanda.

After Hunchback, Kline earned Golden Globe nominations for In & Out and De-Lovely, and topped the box office with Wild Wild West, The Pink Panther, and No Strings Attached. Kline continued his work on the big screen in Last Vegas, The Starling, and The Good House. He even lent his voice to the quirky Mr. Fischoeder in dozens of episodes of Bob's Burgers.

Tony Jay made a villainous turn in The Hunchback of Notre Dame as Judge Claude Frollo, a man with little tolerance for those who are unlike him. A prolific actor, Jay earned earlier credits for the films Love and Death, Time Bandits, Twins, My Stepmother Is an Alien, Beauty and the Beast, and the TV series Mighty Max.

He went on to lend his voice to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Savage Dragon, Mighty Ducks, The Rugrats Movie, Recess: School's Out, ReBoot, House of Mouse, and Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends. Jay died at the age of 73 in 2006.

In the midst of his run as George Costanza on Seinfeld, Jason Alexander voiced Hugo in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. He brought the gargoyle (who is joined by fellow living stone figures Victor and Laverne) to the big screen after making previous appearances in The Burning, The Mosquito Coast, Pretty Woman, Jacob's Ladder, Coneheads, The Paper, North, The Last Supper, and Dunston Checks In.

When Seinfeld's final episode aired in 1998, Alexander went on to earn TV credits for Listen Up, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and The Grinder, plus big-screen credits for The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle, The Grand and Wild Card. He also played Mr. Lundy on CBS' Young Sheldon, and Asher Friedman on Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Alexander lent his voice to Sy Borgman on the animated series Harley Quinn.

Charles Kimbrough joined Jason Alexander as Victor, a fellow gargoyle, after a notable theater career. He played Harry in Stephen Sondheim's musical Company in 1970, picking up a Tony nomination for his performance. Kimbrough moved to big-screen gigs in The Front and Switching Channels, and was on the TV series Kojak. Kimbrough, who spent 10 years on Murphy Brown as Jim Dial, landed subsequent credits for Recess: School's Out, The Wedding Planner, The Hunchback of Notre Dame II, and Marci X.

Laverne (Mary Wickes)

Mary Wickes rounds out the trio of gargoyles as Laverne, a part she took after more than 50 years in the industry. The actress, who made her onscreen debut in the '30s, boasted pre-Hunchback turns on The Halls of Ivy, The Gertrude Berg Show, Father Dowling Mysteries, and in big-screen flicks like The Man Who Came to Dinner, On Moonlight Bay, White Christmas, Sister Act, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, and Little Women. She also lent her voice to the animated show Life with Louie. Laverne in The Hunchback of Notre Dame was Wickes' final big-screen role, as she died at the age of 85 (months before the film's release).

Paul Kandel found his spot in The Hunchback of Notre Dame as Clopin the storyteller. Kandel is best known as a stage actor thanks to Broadway appearances in The Visit, The Who's Tommy, Titanic, and Jesus Christ Superstar. Kandel also appeared in episodes of Loving and The Client before joining the cast of Hunchback. He reprised his role as Clopin in The Hunchback of Notre Dame II.

Archdeacon (David Ogden Stiers)

David Ogden Stiers voiced the cathedral's Archdeacon in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, a character who often comes to the aid of others. Before joining the animated flick, Stiers earned credits for the TV series M*A*S*H, The First Olympics: Athens 1896, and North and South. He also appeared on the big screen in Better Off Dead, Doc Hollywood, and The Accidental Tourist. He notably voiced Cogsworth in (and narrated) Beauty and the Beast and Governor Ratcliffe in Pocahontas.

After Hunchback, Stiers had roles in the films Everyone Says I Love You, Jungle 2 Jungle, and The Majestic, and he lent his voice to Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Lilo & Stitch, Lilo & Stitch: The Series, and The Dead Zone. He also played Arthur Isles in TNT's Rizzoli & Isles. Stiers died in 2018 at the age of 75.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame tapped Frank Welker to voice the goat Djali. Welker played the animal character with dozens of credits to his name. He picked up pre-Hunchback gigs on Scooby Doo, Where Are You!, Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, Inspector Gadget, G.I. Joe, Centurions, The Transformers, Bionic Six, The Smurfs, DuckTales, Alvin & the Chipmunks, Animaniacs, The Real Ghostbusters, Muppet Babies, Tiny Toon Adventures, and Garfield and Friends, and in the original Beauty and the Beast movie.

Welker continued his voice work after Hunchback, lending his talents to Captain Planet and the Planeteers, Gargoyles, The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest, 101 Dalmatians: The Series, House of Mouse, Dexter's Laboratory, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, Transformers Prime, and Futurama. You may have heard him voice Khan the horse in Mulan, the lake monster in Doug's 1st Movie, and George in Curious George.

Welker played roles on The Simpsons, VeggieTales, The Adventures of Puss in Boots, and Teen Titans Go! Plus, he voiced the lovable, mystery-solving pup Scooby-Doo.
