Judi Dench accidentally FaceTimed costar Ben Whishaw from the bath

That's quite the birthday message.

Dame Judi Dench can navigate a film set just fine, but the same cannot be said for those pesky smartphones.

During a recent appearance on the BBC's Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, the Oscar-winning actress, 88, recalled the time she accidentally made a video call to her Skyfall costar Ben Whishaw from the bath. The FaceTime faux pas occurred after her daughter, Finty Williams, encouraged her to call fellow actor Christopher Logan to wish him a happy birthday.

"Fint rang me one morning and said, 'It's Chris Logan's birthday. He's having a walk with Ben Whishaw and they're in Regent's Park. Please wish him happy birthday,'" Dench recalled. "I said, 'Of course.' And then I did some things down here, and then I went up to get dressed and ready and I ran my bath. I got into my bath and I thought, 'Oh! I must send Chris Logan the happy birthday.'"

She continued: "I picked up my phone and I said, 'Chris, happy —' and then I saw these two people turn and [gasp]. It was FaceTiming them. I don't know about FaceTime. Poor Chris."

"What a birthday message!" Ball quipped.

In an Instagram comment, Logan agreed, writing, "My BEST birthday ever!!

In addition to sharing the screen with Whishaw in Skyfall, Dench worked with the actor in a London production of John Logan's play Peter and Alice, earning a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress. She and Logan both appeared the 2005 film Mrs. Henderson Presents.

Dench revealed earlier this year that acting has "become impossible" for her due to her worsening eyesight. "It has become impossible and because I have a photographic memory, I need to find a machine that not only teaches me my lines but also tells me where they appear on the page," she said of her age-related macular degeneration. "I used to find it very easy to learn lines and remember them. I could do the whole of Twelfth Night right now."

She added, "I've had to find another way of learning lines and things, which is having great friends of mine repeat them to me over and over and over again."
