SUMMARY
Thallus to 20(-80) cm, pendent. Branches to 2.5 mm diam., terete, occasionally flattened at axils and towards the base; branching moderate, isotomic-dichotomous, sparser towards the base, which may become pitted; greenish grey, yellow to bright golden yellow, the apices usually concolorous or ± blackened, matt. Pseudocyphellae ca 1 × 0.2 mm, elongate, ± fusiform, flat or convex, often abundant and conspicuous. Soralia unknown in the British Isles.
Teleomorph: ascomata apothecia, to 5 mm diam., lateral. Thalline exciple concolorous with thallus; disc orange-yellow to dark
brown or black, matt or ± shiny. Ascospores 25-40 × 12-25 μm.
Chemistry: medulla C–, CK–, K–, KC± red, Pd–, UV+ ice-blue (± alectoronic, squamatic and perhaps α-collatolic acids); cortex KC+ pale yellow (usnic acid).
